There's an uncomfortable truth that modern medicine continues to avoid: the body never gets sick alone. Behind a persistent dermatitis, an irritable bowel that no treatment can calm, a fibromyalgia that waxes and wanes with the patient's life, or a cancer that appears after months of emotional overload, there is always a biography speaking through the symptoms. Learning to listen to it is the heart of this course.

Comprehensive Patient Assessment and Treatment, directed by Dr. José Luis Marín, is a pioneering training designed for professionals who are no longer content with treating diagnostic labels and want to incorporate a genuine biopsychosocial perspective into their practice. Course Pillars
One of the core pillars of the course is the biography of illnesses. Through the patient's life story, you will learn to observe the relationship between lived events —separations, losses, early traumas, relational failures, sustained demands— and the appearance of bodily symptoms.
A simple, profoundly clinical tool that allows reading illness as an expression of the patient's traumatic history and opening avenues for intervention not considered by the classic biomedical model.
Integration of Theories
Building on this foundation, the course integrates advances in attachment theory and current knowledge on psychic trauma, dissociation, and somatization, providing you with a unified framework to understand why some patients fall ill the way they do.
From there, you will explore the major territories of psychosomatic clinical practice with a depth rarely found in other training programs.
Course Content
- You will work on the digestive system and nutrition as a communication process, with specific applications in obesities.
- You will study the skin as an external brain, that living frontier where so many conflicts become visible.
- You will analyze the psychosomatic clinical practice of the respiratory system and the relationship between environment, respiration, and personality.
- You will understand the decisive role of personality in bodily disorders, that «how this person is» that so often explains «why they get sick this way».

A significant part of the program is dedicated to the conditions that generate the most suffering and clinical helplessness:
- Chronic pain, fibromyalgia, and chronic fatigue syndrome, approached under the revealing idea of «I can't cope with life, my soul hurts».
- Biographical stress factors and cancer, with their specific psychosomatic clinical practice.
- Care for the terminal patient, where emotional and relational aspects are not an addition, but the very core of care.
- Psychosomatic clinical practice in Gynecology and Obstetrics, exploring the relationship between stress, pregnancy, childbirth, and psychological development in the perinatal field, one of the areas where the biopsychosocial perspective is most urgent.
Intervention Model
The course culminates in an integrated intervention model, designed to be applied in real clinical practice. You will learn to plan the combination of therapeutic resources that work on both the body (and the brain) —lifestyle, sleep-wake rhythms, nutrition, physical activity— and the mind —conflict elaboration, affective regulation, relational repair—. A comprehensive and coherent approach that will allow you to treat the patient as what they are: an indivisible biopsychosocial unit.
Therefore, it is not a course to add another chapter to your training. It is a transformation of the clinical perspective, a new way of being with the patient that is sustained by decades of practice, teaching, and evidence.

These are the requirements to access the course:
- Psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, psychotherapists, family doctors, mental health professionals, and MIR/PIR residents who work with people and want to move beyond the purely descriptive approach of the DSM-5 to develop a relational clinical perspective, based on the patient's person and not just their diagnosis. No prior degree is necessary, although basic training in mental health is recommended.
At the end of each module there is a multiple-choice self-assessment quiz. To obtain accreditation you must complete all modules answering at least 80% of questions correctly. You have 3 attempts per quiz.
