Her areas of specialty include trauma, bereavement, divorce, anxiety and ADHD, and her work integrates play therapy into evidence-based models. About Liana.
Her contribution to the field lies in translating what children cannot say into something they can do. Across three and a half decades of clinical practice she has developed a large body of structured play-based activities, games, stories and art interventions for the parts of the work that are hardest to approach through conversation alone, and she gives clinicians permission to reproduce them for direct use with the children they see.
Her two most recent books focus on grief and loss: Cory Helps Kids Cope with Grief: Playful Activities for Young Children, for ages four to seven, and the second edition of Creative Interventions for Bereaved Children, for ages seven to fourteen. Both provide practical tools for helping young grievers affected by suicide, homicide, natural disasters, mass violence, war, substance-related death and other losses.
She is a sought-after keynote speaker and trainer who has presented internationally in countries including China, South Africa, Israel, England, New Zealand and Australia, and has trained thousands of mental health professionals and grief facilitators. She is the recipient of the Monica Herbert Award, in recognition of her outstanding contribution to the field of play therapy.
